How do I register my child for classes?
You can download a registration form from www.acrosstown.org/artis and mail it in to the Acrosstown with your tuition check or scholarship application: PO Box 12254, Gainesville, FL 32604. We will also offer online registration featuring the ability to pay by credit card in the near future.
How do I pay the tuition?
Payment is due at the time of registration, in the form of a check or money order made out the Acrosstown Repertory Theatre, with “ARTiS tuition — Child’s Name” in the memo blank, and mailed to the theatre’s PO Box.
If my child quits before the end of the session do I get my tuition money back?
No. Refunds are only available for students who withdraw before the registration deadline.
Can I make payments?
If financial hardship exists, we encourage you to apply for a scholarship. If no scholarships are available, the Acrosstown may accept a payment plan that includes 50% of the fee at the time of registration, and 50% by the registration deadline (one week before classes begin).
What holidays do you take off?
We do our best to schedule our classes so that there will be minimal interruption of studies. In the event that this is unavoidable, however, ARTiS follows the Alachua County School Board calendar of holidays.
Will my child be in a performance?
Yes, though it will not be open to the public since the performance takes place at the graduation ceremony, where students perform the scenes they have worked on during the term. Family and friends and their personal invitees are welcome at this event.
Can I observe or come to class with my child?
We do not encourage parents or visitors in class except on the last class of each session, at the students’ graduation ceremony and scene performance. Outside observers tend to cloud the mission of each class, distracting students from their focus on scene work, character development, and team-building. Special arrangements might be possible in extenuating circumstances at the discretion of the instructor.
How do you communicate with the parents?
We communicate almost exclusively through email. Emergency contact information is kept on file as part of the registration form in the event we need to contact a parent immediately for any reason.
Are there scholarships available?
Yes. Scholarships are funded by grants, sponsorships, and community donations, and are available on a greatest-need basis. All scholarship applications must be turned in by the deadline in order to determine eligibility, and will be awarded based on the availability of funds. Scholarship applications are due one week before the Registration deadline, and will be awarded no more than 2 weeks later, before the first class of the session.
I’d like to make a donation to the ARTiS Program, how do I do it?
Thank you for your support! Please mail your tax-deductible donation in the form of a check made out to Acrosstown Repertory Theatre and mail it to PO Box 12254, Gainesville, FL 32604. IMPORTANT: Please be sure to put “ARTiS donation” in the memo so that our Treasurer will know to route your donation to our program budget. You will receive a receipt for your records in 2-4 weeks.
Corporate sponsors may be interested in purchasing very affordable ad-space in our programs from the Acrosstown as another way of supporting the theatre and its projects. Contact us at info(at)acrosstown.org for more information.
Will you be offering any other classes?
Yes! ARTiS 2, a slightly more intensive version of ARTiS 1 that will meet twice a week and put on a short, full-length play instead of individual scenes, is slated to begin in January 2012. We also have plans to expand ARTiS to include a week-long summer camp next year. Stay tuned to this website for details!
