Submit A Show
After ensuring the rights are available, consider your show - how do you want it to look/feel? What unique vision do you bring to the material? How is it a good fit for the Acrosstown’s mission and audience?
After gathering your thoughts and reading over the below guidelines, click the button to submit.
Your submission will be disqualified unless the following requirements are met:
The submitter must live in or near Gainesville, Florida (within 50 miles)
Production rights to perform the piece must be acquirable (shows that are brand new, or currently on broadway or national tour may not be available)
How We Select Our Season
The Acrosstown season is generally made up of:
2 Dramas / Thrillers
2 Comedies
1 Acrosstown Classic (Shakespeare, Moliére, Greek, Oscar Wilde - anything older, well-known, and in the public domain)
1 or 2 Musicals
1 ARTy (Art Youth) Production
Here’s a list of factors that will affect how strongly your show is considered:
Does your show have a director? Shows with a production team at the ready will be given higher weight.
Is your show able to be our “Acrosstown Classic”, or is it a show able to be marketed around a timely event, like a holiday?
Has your show been produced by a theatre in the Gainesville area within the last five years? Greater consideration is given to shows that have not been produced recently.
Are you able to have flexible casting? Check your production’s licensing details to be sure. Shows with flexible casting options will be given higher weight.
Is your show suitable for a black box theatre? Our space calls for creativity in staging. If your show requires an extensive set, very large cast with elaborate costumes, or technical intricacies beyond what a community theatre can financially support, the Acrosstown may not be right host for your show.
Do you have a copy of the script? Providing one to the committee ensures we have the ability to read and review the piece.
The Acrosstown Play Selection Committee is made up of board members, regular volunteers, and members of the community. These members review all submissions and vote on whether or not a show should be considered for the season.
If you would like to be involved in the play selection committee, please email info@acrosstown.org.
